Flood Update: Part 15

~Thursday (February 24)~

As expected, the floors look no different this morning. Daddy is going to have to call Mr. A and have another talk with him about this.

Mr. M (a friend from church who does woodworking) calls around 3:00 p.m. He wants to come over right now to look at the floors. We said sure. He barely even walked in the door, when he said, “I know exactly what your problem is.” He says that the floors were probably contaminated when the polyurethane was spread, so it didn’t bond with the floor. He talks with Dad over the phone for about 15 minutes about what he’s seeing.

To sum up, Mr. M says that polyurethane can’t be patched, so in order to fix the floors they will have to completely redo them again. That means moving all of the furniture again, moving out again, boarding the animals again, and sanding and re-varnishing again. I could cry just thinking about it. No, I take that back. I don’t even WANT to think about it.

~Monday (February 28)~

Daddy and Ben finished staining the chair rail for the dining room over the weekend. Dad has also has been working on installing our new TV and sound system. The dining room is quite disorderly right now! Mr. M is coming over tonight to help Dad cut some of the chair rail pieces. He’s going to teach dad how to “cope” the wood so that it fits well into corners. Hopefully Dad will be able to put all the chair rail up tonight, so that we can put the furniture back for our out-of-town guests this weekend. The basement really needs to be cleaned before they get here as well! I’m really not sure how we’re going to get all of the work done before this weekend, but somehow we’ll make it presentable!

Daddy talked with Mr. A again. He is going to be coming back later this week to take a look at things. The floor still looks no different. I’m sure Mr. A will see that for himself, and then we’ll figure out our next step.

Mr. M arrives around 7:00 p.m. to help Dad with the chair rail. He certainly knows what he’s doing! He taught Dad how to cope the wood and install the rail. I helped Dad for a bit holding the wood, blowing his sawdust, etc. Everything looks great, except one little spot where they were trying to drive a nail into the corner, and it hit the metal guard and bent into the wrong place. But it’s nothing a little spackle won’t fix!

The finished chair rail! (Except for filling in the holes with wood putty.)

. . . To be continued. . .

  1. Nice job little brother! The green paint color you used looks like the green that was in Tyler's old bedroom in Millcreek. We approve :-)

  2. Daddy was very happy to finally have some green in the house, Aunt Debbie! But apparently it wasn't enough; he wants to paint our bathroom with the leftover paint. . . we'll see how soon that happens with all of our other projects that have higher precedence! :-)
