A couple of weeks ago, we watched the movie “Pendragon: Sword of His Father” during our weekly pizza and movie night. Ben received the movie for Christmas, and we hadn’t gotten around to watching it yet. This is probably because it’s not the sort of movie we as a family get enthused about.
But that all changed after we watched it! “Pendragon” is an independent film that was released in 2008. We later found out that the family that produced the film lives in Michigan!
The film takes place back in 411 A.D. The Pendragon is the leader of the British colony after the Roman legions have left Britain. Their camp is raided by the Saxons, and Artos—the Pendragon’s son—is left to carry out his father’s vision of a free Britain alone. The movie follows his journey as he fights for the people of Britain and as he seeks to fulfill the calling God has placed on his life.
We as a family really enjoyed this movie because of its powerful message. It excellently portrays the importance of a multi-generational vision in families. It shows the great impact that a person can have on an entire nation, if he (or she) obeys God’s commands, and seeks His will for their lives. The courage displayed in the movie is very inspiring; as Christians we are called to live in bold service to our King, Jesus.
The movie does have a few scary scenes, so I would give it a PG rating. But if possible, find a copy and watch this incredible movie! Also check out the Burns Family Studios website to learn about their current film-in-production, Beyond the Mask.
