Missionary Visit

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a missionary couple in our home. We first met them several years ago when Mom and Dad took me on my first missions trip to the mountains of Mexico. We became very good friends with the missionaries there, and have supported their ministry since then.

 

Several years ago, they finished their mission in Mexico and accepted an assignment in Trinidad. That assignment was recently completed, and now they are preparing for a new avenue of their ministry: training young people and couples who are preparing to go into the mission field.

 

They wanted to visit with us and share a little bit about the work they will be doing. We were very excited to see them again after so many years!

 

They arrived at our house late Thursday afternoon. We had a wonderful time catching up with them, and sharing a little bit about our trip to Haiti. We swapped our “island stories.” J

 

That night we ate a delicious dinner together. We had grilled garlic-lime chicken, quinoa pilaf, green peas, tomatoes and cucumbers with vinaigrette, and Hawaiian rolls with homemade nasturtium butter.

We sat at the dinner table for hours talking all about missions, theology, and what’s going on in our lives. After everyone else left to clean up the dishes, I talked with Mrs. W for a long time about the orphanage project and my future involvement in missions. She passed along a lot of advice and wisdom based on her experience of 13 years in the field. I am so thankful for mentors like her!

 

I think we all made it to bed sometime after 11:00 p.m. after all that visiting!

 

The next morning we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of ham and cheese strata, fruit, and banana bread with the W’s.

After breakfast, Mrs. W played our piano for a bit, and I showed them both my garden and around our yard. When we came back inside, they shared about some of the security protocol they had to follow while living in Trinidad. Some of the stories they told were pretty shocking and sad.

Before they headed off to their next stop, we had to have a picture together!

It’s amazing to see how much we’ve grown since the last time we saw them!

We were sorry that their visit had to be so short, but we’re so thankful that we had the opportunity to visit with them and hear about their new ministry opportunity. We look forward to seeing how the Lord uses them in the coming years!
