The Last Days in Michigan

Our last few days in Michigan were very full! There were lots of last-minute errands, final goodbyes, and plenty of packing.

Monday morning, two men from the moving company arrived to start packing up our house. They spent almost the entire day packing the basement. They really needed four guys that day.

Monday night Uncle Paul, Aunt Noelle, and their boys came over to pick up some furniture they bought from us. Of course we visited for awhile! :-)

Mikey *loved* getting a head rub so much he almost went to sleep!

On Tuesday morning, 3 packers from the moving company arrived to finish packing the house along with 3 loaders and our driver (a total of 7 people!) It was a pretty hectic day with lots of questions as to what needed to be packed and loaded and what needed to stay or just be moved, etc. I ended up being in charge for quite a bit of the time while Mom ran errands. I got to know our driver pretty well because he was doing the inventory of everything and was always asking questions about what needed to stay or go, discussing the conditions of the furniture pre-move, etc. I think he probably got tired of hearing my voice saying “Um, Mr. K? We forgot to mention something. . .” There were a few instances when something wasn’t packed that should have been, or something DID get packed that wasn’t supposed to.

This is what my room looked like on Tuesday afternoon. Thankfully they left us our beds so we used our sleeping bags on top of them that night.

The 3 packing guys stayed until almost 8 p.m. that night finishing the packing. After they finished Mom had to sign all the inventory sheets before they left.

On Wednesday morning the 3 loaders and the driver arrived again to finish loading everything onto the van. It was a little weird seeing all our stuff out on the driveway! As they would empty rooms, we would vacuum them and get them all ready for us to leave.

That afternoon we had some other friends stop by to pick up more furniture and to say their goodbyes.

That afternoon Mom had to sign more inventory papers from the driver. Yes, I’m standing there, but no, I wasn’t signing the papers. J I was helpful, but not that helpful!

All our belongings left our house around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon! We kids stood outside and waved at the loaders, and they tooted the horn at us. I think they like us despite the fact that we can be a little high-maintenance at times. J

That evening some of our neighbors came over to say their goodbyes. One of our neighbors was so sweet and made us some of her famous peanut butter fudge! It was such a pleasant surprise and it was definitely enjoyed.

Wednesday night we girls went to our last Bright Lights meeting (in Michigan that is.) We are going to miss these girls so much! They have been an incredible blessing and encouragement to us over the years. Maybe we’ll have the chance to start our own group in Texas!

Thursday afternoon we went with Mom and Dad to close on our house in Michigan. The buyers are a young couple expecting their first baby in June! We were glad the house sold to such a nice couple.

On our last evening in our house we had a Big Ben pizza. This pizza is HUGE! I think it’s something like 18 inches in diameter. The ironic part is that our very first dinner at our house in Michigan was, you guessed it, a Big Ben pizza!

That evening we camped in our empty house. It was different being in an empty house, but we slept well knowing that the next day was a big day for us!
