Family Picnic at the Pool

To culminate our week of Sports Camp at church, we had a big family picnic at a local splash park! Our family had never been there before, but it’s pretty much THE place to be in the summer here. J

Waiting in line for the park to open. Our church had rented out the park all to ourselves, which was good because we had a few hundred people come!

To these thick-blooded northerners, the pool felt like bathwater, especially in light of the fact that the temps were in the 90’s.

The pool had a ½ meter diving board, a short water slide in the deep end, two larger waterslides on the shallower side (one covered and one open), a lazy river (we called it the “crazy river” because there were so many kids in it!), basketball hoops, and a special area with all kinds of fountains and fun things for little ones.
A view of the shallower side with the lazy river.

After several hours of swimming, it was time to call it a night. But we decided to go out for some ice cream and snacks at Braum’s! We had never eaten there before, but it was on our “Summer Fun List.” The ice cream and fries were really good!

We had a great time ending Sports Camp and starting our summer!

  1. Looks like y'all had fun! :) We have a Splash Down park near my Grandparents (who live in Northern Virginia) that we have been to a few times (I think I've been twice but I only remember the more recent one :). I don't know if that is the same park as the one you went to (but in a different location, of course) or not. It was sorta like the one you went to but on a larger scale. They have a lazy river, a few different slides, a little kid area with smaller slides and fountains, a separate pool with floating animals for you to walk across, a sand pit (I think it has volley-ball and some stuff for the kids to play in), a picnic area, and a concession stand. I think that is all that I can remember. :)
We did a post on it here: http://www.solidrockranchupdates.blogspot.com/2011/08/fun-week-with-grandpa-and-grandma.html

Hope y'all are doing well and enjoy the summer heat! ;)

    Joyfully His,

  2. What a fun place to cool off! Don't worry, in another year or two 90 degrees will not seem so hot :-)

    Love & Hugs to all!

  3. The Splash Down park sounds fun, Alexis! I don't think our park is the same, but they sound quite similar. Ours is definitely a favorite spot for kids during the summer months!

  4. Betsy and I had to visit Braum's when we were in Oklahoma! I had forgotten about them :) Our favorite treat spot in OK was a local place called Jared's (frozen custard!).

  5. I know, Aunt Debbie! The temperature has cooled down to the 80's for this upcoming week, and it feels absolutely glorious! :-) As they say, "it's all relative!"

  6. I will have to look for Jared's if I'm ever in that area of OK, 989cookie! I'm not too surprised that you've been to Braum's before, as it is an OK-based business. It's good, isn't it?
