Our Halloween

Our Halloween this year was very different from any other year. But it was really quite fun!

We stopped by the Chamber of Commerce a couple of weeks ago, and the lady told us that there was classic car trunk-or-treating on Main Street every Halloween. Then all the neighborhoods downtown opened up for trick-or-treating. Since we live in-the-middle-of-nowhere and no one trick-or-treats around here, we thought it would be fun for Josiah (who is still young enough to enjoy a reason to dress up and get candy. J)

But we also noticed that the weather was clear that night. A friend of ours from church has wanted to come out to our property and take sunset pictures for quite some time. We knew we would have busy evenings for the next several weeks, and thought it’d be a good time for him to come out.

Unfortunately he didn’t get off work until 7:00 p.m., so he decided to come out and take star pictures instead. So we decided to split and not everyone went downtown. Dad took Roma and Josiah while the rest of us stayed at home.

It sounds like the trunk-or-treating was really fun! We love the Main Street area of our town!

Josiah dressed up as a Tae-Kwon-Do Ninja. J He had a lot of fun, and got a huge bucket filled with candy!

One of the local churches had a Duck Dynasty-themed Harvest party going on, so they stopped there. They had lots of fun games for the kids!

Meanwhile, the rest of us froze! J We set up shop in our front field. C got all the settings adjusted and had us turn off as many lights in the house as we could. Then we experimented! We got some fair star trails in this photo.

We experimented with exposures varying in time from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. While we waited for the pictures to take, we did some light painting, talked, and admired the stars. It was so clear out we could faintly see the Milky Way!

Surprisingly, this “mistake” picture turned out to be my favorite from the night! I love how the stars are frozen in the sky.

We also experimented with some silhouette shots.

We stayed out until midnight taking pictures! We were pretty cold by the time we finished, but we learned a lot. We’re looking forward to doing another night-time photo shoot soon!

It was a different kind of Halloween, but loads of fun!
