Favorite Vacations

Our family has been blessed with many opportunities to make memories together on family vacations. Most of the time, our vacations are to grandparents’ houses in Ohio and Pennsylvania and we have so much fun with them! But we have also been to other places such as Canada, Puerto Rico, Virginia, Washington D.C., Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Kentucky, and many other places! So without further ado, here are some of our favorite family vacations:

Mark—I really enjoyed our trip to Washington D.C. and Virginia that we took last year. It was great to see family and all of the sights. I also enjoyed our trip to Charlevoix, Michigan several years ago.

Enjoying the paddleboat on the lake in Charlevoix.
Betsy—My favorite vacation is usually the one we just took! J We took a wonderful trip to Charlevoix, MI quite a few years ago. We stayed in a lovely log home right on the lake, and it was so relaxing and beautiful! Our trips to Puerto Rico and Disney World were awesome, since we were with lots of family, and the children got to do and see so many interesting things! The historical tour of Washington DC, Mt. Vernon, the Jamestown Settlement, etc. was a home educator’s dream, and our “students” were just the right age to really appreciate it! That said, I know of a trip coming up in a year or so that will surely knock their socks off! J

The beautiful log cabin on Nowland Lake in Charlevoix.
Bianca—Wow, this is a really hard question for me! I always look forward to—and enjoy—our visits with grandparents and cousins. Seeing family is always a blessing! I think that other than that, my favorite family vacation was the two-week trip we took to the east coast last year. We spent a week visiting relatives in Virginia and enjoying good southern-style hospitality and food. We then spent the next week touring Washington D.C. I would go back in a heartbeat! I also really enjoyed spending a few days at Niagara Falls in Canada. It is so beautiful!

All of us in front of the Potomac River at Mt. Vernon, home of our first President, George Washington. This was probably our favorite place in Washington D.C.!

Ben—I enjoyed Washington D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, and Disney World.

We went to West Virginia years ago with dear friends of ours and had fun seeing different sights. Road trips are always more fun with good friends!
Rubia—My number one favorite family vacation was the trip we took to Virginia and Washington D.C. I also really enjoyed our trip to Disney World. I liked Puerto Rico and Kentucky as well.

Our reason for visiting Kentucky was so that we could visit the Creation Museum. We highly recommend it if you have the chance!
Roma—I really loved Washington D.C. and Virginia! I also liked Kentucky, and Puerto Rico. I enjoyed meeting my relatives in Puerto Rico!

All of us kids with our cousin in Puerto Rico. We enjoyed meeting our Great Grandmother, as well as several Great Aunts, Uncles, and cousins on the trip.
Josiah—I really enjoyed Disney World, Washington D.C. and Virginia, Canada, and visiting my grandparents’ house during the summer time.

  1. One of my favorite family vacations was the time we went to the Straits of Mackinac for Betsy's birthday in April. It was before tourist season and we just had a relaxing time together (and got a good deal on fudge).

  2. Greenfield Village, John Deere, Joel n' Judith's house, and every July 4th camp-out week.

  4. I want to go to Greenfield Village again, Betsy! We went there when I was little but I don't remember much about it. Your other vacations sound like fun as well!
