Graduation Parties

Well, it’s that time of year again: time for graduation parties! We have already missed one and attended two. We will sadly miss 5 more since we will be traveling, and possibly attend 1 more. The two we attended were the same day, so here’s what last Saturday looked like.

The first party was for our neighbor across the street. They had decided to host his party at a local park, and the night before, our neighbor called and asked if Ben and I would be willing to “babysit” the tables at the park. We happily obliged.

The next morning, we helped load up their cars with things to take to the park. Then we helped carry everything to the pavilion. It was SO hot and humid that day--about 88 degrees with very high humidity. We helped put out tablecloths, arranged food platters and centerpieces, and filled bowls with peanuts and M & M’s for the tables.

We then rode to our neighbors’ church to pick up the remaining food and utensils. Then she kindly dropped us off at our house so that we could freshen up before actually arriving at the party.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures after all of that hard work! But the food was delicious, and the weather cooled down a bit. We ate BBQ pulled pork, spicy Chicken Alfredo and penne pasta salad, cheesy potatoes, Asian coleslaw, spinach and strawberry salad, taco dip with chips, baked beans, chocolate éclair cake, graduation cake, and brownies. It was quite the spread! We enjoyed visiting with friends from Boy Scouts there (the graduate is an Eagle Scout in Ben’s troop.)

We left around 5:30 p.m. for another friend’s party. We have known the C family for several years as he was the youth and music pastor at our old church. So we saw many old friends at the party. We loved their new home out in the country. It was a very relaxing time.

The graduate comes from a family of all boys, as I’m sure you could guess. J They had a little too much fun surprising him with silly string. I told Josiah and Ben that they are FORBIDDEN from ever doing this to me. J

At this party, they had a taco theme. Most of us were too full to eat after the first party though. But we did enjoy the coolness of the tent!

When we weren’t visiting with people, we enjoyed tossing the football around.

And that was our day! We have collected many ideas for our future graduation parties, and we enjoyed catching up with friends!
