1st Annual Pumpkin Festival

This past Wednesday we had our “Big Wednesday” at youth group a week early. Since it was the day before Halloween, we wanted to do something fun. We decided to have a Pumpkin Festival!

As the youth ministry intern, I helped come up with the plans for the night. J We were praying that the weather would cooperate, as there was a 100% chance of scattered thunderstorms that day. Knowing a lot of our plans were outside, we started praying, and God blessed us by keeping the storms at bay! There was a light drizzle and it was a bit cool, but not enough to keep us inside. J

Each student was instructed to bring a small pumpkin and a large pumpkin. A couple of guys from church built a huge pumpkin slingshot for the little pumpkins!
It got pretty slippery and messy with the mud! We also discovered that horse apples went much further than the pumpkins. But we had fun doing both!
Afterward, we all went inside to warm up and enjoy some good food! We ate pumpkin-shaped pizzas, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pie bars, orange-colored cake balls, candy corn, hot chocolate, and hot apple cider.
Then we got started on carving the big pumpkins. Some of the kids kept it really simple, while others had fun getting more elaborate. Most of the high school boys carved some type of super hero insignia on theirs.
The finished pumpkins all lit up!
It was a really fun evening, and definitely worth all of the pumpkin guts we had to clean up afterward. J
