My Mom celebrated a birthday in the month of
January. One of her favorite cakes (that we’ve made for her birthday for
several years in a row now) is Chocolate Turtle Cake. This cake is delicious served
slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s pretty rich, but
just about right for a birthday celebration. J
Chocolate Turtle Cake
1 box (18-19 oz) German chocolate cake mix
1 bag (14 oz) caramels, unwrapped
1 small can (5 oz) evaporated milk
2 Tablespoons butter
1 bag (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 Cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare cake mix according
to package directions. Pour half of batter into greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake
for 15 minutes. While cake is baking, melt caramels with milk and butter,
stirring until smooth. Slowly pour caramel mixture over partially baked cake.
Spread evenly. Sprinkle chocolate chips and ½ cup of pecans over caramel
mixture.
Pour remaining cake batter over top, spreading
evenly. Sprinkle with remaining pecans. Bake for 30 minutes or until center is
set. Cool before slicing. Serves 12-16.

Did you use pecans from your trees in the cake?
This is one of my favorites too! Our recipe is a little different. We use 1 can sweetened condensed milk(in place of evaporated),
1 stick of butter and 1 cup of chocolate chips. Everything else is the same as yours.
I still want try the french toast casserole recipe you posted.
No we didn't, Aunt Debbie. We tend to forget that we have them! :-) But we'll have to try that in the future!
