A Look Back at Christmas 2010, Part 1

All of last month, I had been formulating posts in my head about decorating, cooking, and preparing for Christmas. But the month was so full that I didn’t have time to post about Christmas at all! Therefore, I decided that I would do a couple of posts to give everyone a recap of the month of December.

Decorating

All the boxes of decorations have come down from the attic.

You can't decorate without egg nog!

I personally prefer peach tea and caramel corn!

The twins learning from Daddy how to test Christmas tree lights.

Snow

What 6 inches of snow in Michigan looks like!

Advent

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is participating in advent. Two or three times a week, we gather around our lit candle wreath, sing Christmas carols, and read and discuss part of the Christmas story. We have so many fun traditions that are part of advent! One is that every night, we pray for people from whom we’ve received Christmas cards/letters. We love praying for these people and thinking about them and their families and how the Lord is working in their lives!

Another tradition is always a surprise! On one of our advent nights, our parents will surprise us and tell us to go get our slippers and bathrobes and get in the car, because we are going to drive around and look at Christmas lights! This is so special because we get to spend time as a family, and enjoy looking at all of the beautiful lights. We talk about Jesus being the light of the world, and how He came to this earth during a very dark time in history. We also count the nativity scenes that we see.

This is one of the homes we saw during advent. Can you see the nativity scene to the left? There is an angel on the roof above the nativity.

I love this event in advent, because it reminds me how bright a few lights can be. Some houses are very flashy and full of lights, but even just a few candles in the window can be very bright. In our world of darkness, we can be a bright light! And as a string of lights is comprised of many small lights, we are one light in the body of believers that can shed much light in our world!

Thanks Amy! I took the picture from my parents' bathroom window. It was too cold to go outside, so I cheated! :-)
