New Year's Weekend

After our travels to Ohio and Pennsylvania for Christmas, we enjoyed a low-key New Year’s weekend at home. On Saturday everyone enjoyed sleeping in late and having a leisurely breakfast. During the day Mom and Dad attacked the unfinished part of our basement. They’ve been wanting to reorganize it and get rid of a lot of things, and they’re making great progress! Later in the evening while Mom fixed dinner, we kids took early showers so that we could enjoy the celebration!

For dinner we enjoyed homemade Country Chicken Chowder and artichoke dip crostini. It was goooood! J We watched the movie Joshua during dinner.
After dinner, we found out that Mom and Dad were going to let us stay up to watch the ball drop this year! While we waited, we played a round of Pictionary. It was a really funny game, with the boys winning against the girls by a few spaces.

After Pictionary, we played some card games and read books until the time came for the ball to drop. We all shouted the countdown together and in came the New Year! Then it was time for bed for us kids.

Mom and Dad slept in front of the fire in the hide-a-bed couch. In the morning, we kids took over the bed and watched “The Perfect Gift” while we waited for breakfast.
Daddy made our annual traditional breakfast of pancakes and sausage. They were delicious!

Since it was Sunday, we had our weekly family Bible study. We’ve been studying the book of Acts using the “Balancing the Sword: Volume 1” book. We relaxed for the rest of the day and went to bed on time! J Since my Dad had the day off Monday, we continued working in the basement. It was sad to have our vacation end, but we enjoyed spending so much time together as a family over the holidays!

Yes, Aunt Debbie, Daddy can cook when properly motivated! :-) And the oranges made a delicious accompaniment to our breakfast! Some really nice people drove all the way from Florida to bring them to us. ;-)
