Favorite Movies

Movies can be a rather controversial subject among Christians. We know some Christians who find it ok to watch movies with offensive language and other inappropriate content, while others don’t believe it’s right to watch movies at all. Our family falls in the middle. We do watch secular movies, but nearly all of them are G-rated, and if any bad content comes up (even “little” things such as crude humor), we generally don’t see that movie again.

Over the years we have built up a collection of good movies from places such as Vision Forum, Moody, Voice of the Martyrs, as well as others. We love them all!

Mark—I like “End of the Spear,” and “Fireproof.” I also like any religious documentary, movies about missionaries, and films about the history of airplanes.

Betsy—I’ve always been partial to old black and white movies. One favorite is the 1940 production of “Pride and Prejudice” starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. I also love epic films such as “The Ten Commandments” starring Charlton Heston. More modern selections include “Fireproof” and the “Narnia” series. “Pamela’s Prayer” is a beautiful portrayal of courtship, while “Time Changer” gives an excellent view of how spiritual compromise by Christians can change the course of history in a devastating way. I also love “The Perfect Stranger” because it’s practically an entire course on apologetics. Documentaries like “Agenda,” “The Mysterious Islands,” and “Homeschool Dropouts” are favorites as well. I can’t pick a favorite among the Moody Science Classics, because there are too many to name. But my all-time favorite, all year long, is “It’s a Wonderful Life,” because it so creatively and beautifully demonstrates how valuable every individual is in God’s eyes.

Bianca—My all time favorite movie is, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Another one I love is the 1959 version of “Ben-Hur.” But I have so many favorite movies. Some of my other favorites include “Return of the Daughters,” “The Mysterious Islands,” “Agenda,” the “Left Behind” series, and the “Underground Reality” DVD’s from Voice of the Martyrs.

Ben—My all time favorite is “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Stewart. I love history so I also love the “National Treasure” series and the 1959 version of “Ben-Hur.” My favorite documentary is “Agenda.” I also like “A More Perfect Union,” which is a great movie about the drafting of our Constitution.

Rubia—I love the “Narnia” series! I also like “Ben-Hur” with Charlton Heston, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Saving Sarah Cain,” and “Anne of Green Gables.”

Roma—I like the “Narnia” series, the “National Treasure” series, and some of the “Left Behind” movies. And I like “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry.”

Josiah—One of my favorites is “Toy Story.” I also like “National Treasure 2” and “Time Changer.”

Betsy,
I also liked The Perfect Stranger. I think there is a sequel where the main character's daughter has a similar experience? Have you all heard about or senn this movie?

Debbie, I've heard of a movie called, "The Perfect Gift" which stars Jefferson Moore (the "Jesus" character) as a mysterious drifter named "Jess." He helps a young girl, and her father and mother, to learn about the true meaning of Christmas. I haven't yet seen this movie, but it's on my list!:-)

For me, it's hard to beat the BBC's 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (I haven't watched the b&w version yet, but I think it would be hard to change my mind).

Amy, I haven't seen the BBC version yet, but sometime when I have 5 free hours, I might have to do that! It would be interesting to compare the two.
