Our Last Day in Houston (Saturday)

We all enjoyed sleeping in a bit after getting to bed so late following the gala. We still had to get up a little early so that we wouldn’t miss breakfast. After eating, we packed up our room and headed back to the ballroom to help clean things up.

When we got to the parking garage, the boys nearly fainted when they saw a Lamborghini Aventador. Even though we had parked all the way on the 3rd level, we had to walk all the way down to level 1 so they could get a closer look and take a few pictures. :-)

The rest of the folks from A Child’s Hope had done most of the clean-up already, so we talked with the missionaries while we waited to have our de-brief meeting. One of the board members led us in a wonderful prayer of Thanksgiving to God for all that He had done over the weekend. We then discussed how things went, and the high-priority logistics for the future (most of those are on me as the Trip Coordinator, with the deadline of commitment for our missions trips coming up on April 15th.)

We were sad to say our goodbyes to everyone, but we had a lunch date to keep. I am so blessed to be part of an incredible team of people at A Child’s Hope! Everyone is so down-to-earth and kind. I have never felt more loved and welcomed by a group of people that I have only met face-to-face once or twice in my life!

We started to drive north in order to visit some other friends in Houston. Pastor Randy was the Pastor of our church in Michigan before he moved to Texas last summer. We hadn’t had a chance to see his whole family since they moved, so we were very excited to see them again!

We met them at their new church where the kids were having baseball games. We visited while the games finished.

Pastor was so nice to get all of us snow cones! They were quite refreshing.

Then he gave us the grand tour of the church.
All of us in front of the church.
Next we all caravanned over to a local Mexican restaurant (Pappasitos Cantina.) We were shocked at how full the restaurant was at 3:00 p.m. But we didn’t mind waiting a little longer since we were among friends. J

Pappasitos is known for its homemade tortillas. They are also known for their dough balls. J To entertain kids while they wait for their meal, they give them a dough ball to play with like play dough.
Most of us got fajitas with rice and beans. It was honestly the very BEST Mexican food I have EVER had! And I have gone to Mexico and had the real deal, so take it from me! J

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch and lots of time to catch up. But sadly, all good things come to an end. We had to say our goodbyes and head home so that we could get home that night. But we had a wonderful time in Houston, and we look forward to the next time we can visit!

It was wonderful to see all of you again! Though I've never been to Mexico, this is my favorite Mexican restaurant so far in town. I'm thankful you're gala fundraiser was a huge success. I'm humbled by your faith and obedience in following what God has laid on your heart in Haiti. I can't wait to hear your report when you return this summer!

I'm so glad you all had such a wonderful time in Huston. The Gala and fellowship with friends both old and new I am sure created special memories.

The church in your pictures looks just like Bell Shoals (old sanctuary) inside and out.

Love,
Aunt Debbie

It was so good to see you and your family as well, Miss Stacy! We are now big fans of Pappasitos. :-) In fact, we ate there tonight with my Grandparents who are in from Ohio. They loved it as well.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I too, am thankful things went so well at the gala. I also look forward to sharing with you about my trip later this year!

We did make a lot of memories at the gala, Aunt Debbie. And yes, the church building is a lot like the old Bell Shoals campus. It has the same style.
