One thing I love about our family is that we are spontaneous! Mom and Dad sometimes plan special surprises for us kids, and other times we all are just in the mood to do something, so we do it! It keeps life interesting for all of us.

About 6 years ago, Mom and Dad told us were going to have a special surprise in November. We went to the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, MI for a night! We enjoyed swimming in the pools, playing at the Chuck E. Cheese-style arcade, and eating at the hotel restaurant. |

Sometimes during the warmer months, we will pack a lunch and take our school work to one of our local parks for the afternoon. That provided good motivation for finishing our work; we could play on the playground when we were done! J |

Back in 2009 Dad and Mom planned a special outing for us kids. Ok, so if they planned it that doesn’t make it totally spontaneous, but it seemed that way to us kids. Anyway, we took a special outing to ride on the 1225 Polar Express! |

Sometimes after breakfast, Mom will ask if anyone wants to go on a walk. Usually everyone is eager to go. We enjoy hiking around the wetlands in our neighborhood in the springtime before the bugs get too bad. |
|
Sometimes we will go out to breakfast as a special treat to start off our day. One of our favorite spots is Bob Evan’s. Everyone loves this occasional treat because no one has to do any dishes afterwards! J |

Last night, we had another spontaneous outing. Daddy thought we could go out to Subway and then to Cold Stone Creamery since we had ice cream gift cards to use. We kids quickly freshened up and put away our school work to leave. As we were driving to Subway, we passed a burger shop that is part of a local chain. We decided that we’d rather try that and made a quick turn-around. J The burgers were quite good and tasted almost homemade! |

The ice cream was delicious as well! The temperatures had been up in the 80’s all day, and it was a refreshing treat. |

I like trips where you can stop and explore when you see something fun. Yesterday I discovered two old cemeteries. The day before I found an outhouse with stained glass.
I think our favorite spontaneous thing to do is invite people over on extremely short notice. We have a very full schedule, and if something gets cancelled at the last minute, we'll do anything as simple as inviting a few friends over, or something as drastic as throwing a party!
Once, we wanted to have a farewell party for one of our older sisters. We never got around on deciding a date, but we knew we wanted it to be on a Thursday. On a Wednesday, around lunchtime, we decided that the on next day, Thursday, was going to be our only chance! We all got busy, preparing food and calling relatives and friends. Mom made chicken divan, and black beans and rice, and homemade rolls. Us girls worked on desserts and drinks. We were so blessed to have a lot of people show up, even at short notice.
That sounds like fun, Amy! Sometimes we drive by a park, or store, or something else and I wish we could stop to look at it, but we're too busy. Traveling at a slower pace is nice sometimes! You never know what treasures you'll find!

To be perfectly honest, Lydia, when I think of the word "spontaneous," your family pops into mind! :-) But it sounds like you have a lot of fun that way. I know we've enjoyed several of your spontaneous parties!
