Favorite Scripture Passages

The Bible is a very treasured book to our family. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” We believe it is important to spend time daily in the word of God, and these are some of our favorite passages:

Mark—As a husband and father, there are so many excellent verses. Probably one of my favorites is 1 Corinthians 10:13 (“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”)  Another favorite from a family perspective is Joshua 24:15b (“But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”).

Betsy—I love many of the Psalms and Proverbs, and so many other verses, that it’s very hard to pick favorites. Three that I find very comforting are: Psalm 119:105. (“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will confirm it, that I will keep Thy righteous ordinances.”); Phil 4:6-7 (“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”); and 2 Tim 3:16-17 (“All Scripture is inspired by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”)

Bianca—I have so many favorite passages, it’s hard to choose! Three of my “life verses” are Jeremiah 29:11 (“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”), Ephesians 2:10 (“For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”), and John 10:10b, (“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”). Because I’m a runner, I also appreciate passages like Isaiah 40:29-31, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, and 1 Timothy 4:8.

Ben—In the hopes of being a Pastor someday, I like 1 Peter 5:2: “Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve.” And I also like the verse Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”

Rubia—My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 (“I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”) I also like Isaiah 40:31 (“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”)

Roma—Some of my favorite Bible verses are John 3:16 (“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”), Philippians 4:13 (“I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”), Jeremiah 29:11-12 (“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”), and Isaiah 40:31 (“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”)

Josiah—I like Proverbs 3:5-6 (“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make your paths straight.”) I also like Proverbs 18:24 (“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”)

One of my favorites is Job 19:23-27:

“Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,
that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead,
or engraved in rock forever!
I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet in my flesh I will see God;
I myself will see him
with my own eyes—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!"

I love that Job hopelessly longs for his story to be remember, and yet thousands of years later I read his words! The hope of a redeemer in the following lines gives me goosebumps. How incredible, that thousands of years before Jesus, Job grasped the promise of God's power over death!

This is a very powerful passage of scripture, Amy! I too share Job's longing for the Lord's kingdom to come, when we will see Him face to face!

I realize this was probably an older post! Oh well.
Revelation 22:12,13
Behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last!
