Congressman's Birthday Party

This past Saturday, we had the unique experience of going to our congressman’s 90th birthday party! My Dad’s boss is good friends with Congressman Hall, and invited our whole family as well as several other people from my Dad’s work over to his home to celebrate.

The party was in the late afternoon, and the food was catered by a local fine dining restaurant. They served delicious hors d'oeuvres along with crudités.

We had steak crostini (pictured above), *amazing* herbed quinoa cakes, salmon mousse on crostini, crab cakes, cheeses, fruit, and crudités with delicious dips.

We enjoyed visiting with Congressman Hall as soon as we walked in. For someone who is 90 years old, he is incredibly sharp and fit. I was expecting someone in a wheelchair without nearly as much wit. But Congressman Hall didn’t sit down once during the party, and he has a great sense of humor! J

We kids enjoyed meeting a lot of people from Dad’s work. We’ve heard lots of names, but had never seen the faces.

Part way through the party, we paused while my Dad’s boss said a few words in honor of Congressman Hall. Then Congressman Hall gave a small speech before we sang Happy Birthday to him. We enjoyed the angel food cake as well as the chocolate, strawberry, and red velvet cake balls.

OK, funny story. J As we were walking out of the party, I spied a beautiful long-haired kitty. This precious kitty had a little bell on its collar and was all curled up. I went running over to the couch exclaiming (a little loudly) in my best baby voice, “Wook at the wittle kitty!” Real mature, I know. J

We ran by Lowe’s after the party, and then immediately headed over to church for a Graduation dessert night, in honor of all the high school graduates. More on that tomorrow!
